Read the Bible
The Bible is God’s Word to us. It’s His message of love, forgiveness, and the way to eternal life. It can also answer questions about how to live a life that pleases Him. That’s why Christians are encouraged to read the Bible daily. Here’s how you can get started:
- Begin with the Gospel of John. Read one chapter each day. It will help you understand who Jesus is, what He did for us, and why we should believe in Him.
- Read the book of Acts. This exciting account shows how Jesus’s first followers shared the Good News and how the early church grew.
- Explore the New Testament letters. These letters—Romans through 3 John—were written to people who were new in their faith, just like you.
Talk to God
Prayer means talking to God. Speak to Him often. Tell Him about your struggles and let Him carry the weight of your worries. Praise and thank Him for who He is and what He’s done. Admit your weaknesses and confess your sins. Commit your day to Him. Here’s how you can get started:
- Set a time and place to pray. Mornings are often best because you’re rested and focused. Choose a quiet spot where you won’t be distracted—and make it a daily habit.
- Make prayer lists. Write down people and situations you want to pray for. Also keep a list of things you’re thankful for—ways God has provided, answered prayers, or shown His love.
- Pray about what you’ve read. Ask God to help you understand His Word and apply it to your life.
Follow the Holy Spirit
There is one God, but He exists in three persons: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit. When you put your faith in Jesus, the Holy Spirit comes to live inside you. He is your Helper—your daily guide in this new life with Christ. He helps you understand God’s Word, reminds you of Jesus’ teachings, and gives you the strength to live in a way that honors God. Here’s how you can get started:
- Ask for His guidance. Invite the Holy Spirit to lead your thoughts, words, and actions today. You don’t have to face life alone—He is always with you.
- Pay attention to His leading. The Holy Spirit may prompt you through Scripture, through your conscience, or by giving you peace—or a sense that something isn’t right—about a decision.
- Obey when He leads. As you grow in your faith, you’ll start to recognize the Holy Spirit’s guidance more clearly. Take action when He leads you.
